June 24th - 27th 2006:

The 17th General Assembly of the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities was hosted by the City of Vancouver, Canada on June 24th-27th, 2006.

The General Assembly took place in conjunction with the World Peace Forum, also sponsored by the City of Vancouver.

The seessions (some of them in conjunction with delegates from the "Mayors for Peace" movement) were chaired by Alfred L. Marder, (New Haven, USA), president of the IAPMC, co-chaired by George Chow (councillor and Deputy Mayor of Vancouver), the minutes were taken by Secretary General of the IAPMC, Brian Fitch (Brighton & Hove, UK). During the General Assembly, two new member cities were accepted: Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Jeju (South Korea). We proudly welcome our new members.

The theme of the World Peace Forum is "Cities and Communities: Working Together to End War and Build a Peaceful, Just and Sustainable World".
